-Water Logging in KIRARI Claims Lives and Highlights Indifference of local MLA Rituraj

Kirari’s recent deluge has unleashed a deadly trail of destruction, claiming lives and exposing the constituency’s crippling civic apathy . Water logging has become a perennial problem, claiming lives and wreaking havoc on the daily lives of citizens. The latest incident, which resulted in the loss of several lives due to drowning and electrocution, is a stark reminder of the civic apathy and administrative inefficiency that plagues the area.

Kirari’s geography, with its low-lying areas and inadequate drainage system, makes it prone to water logging. However, the primary cause of this menace lies in the lack of effective urban planning and management. The area’s rapid urbanization, coupled with the absence of a comprehensive drainage system, has led to the choking of natural waterways and the inability of the existing infrastructure to cope with heavy rainfall.

The consequences of water logging are far-reaching and devastating. Lives are lost, property is damaged, and the economic and social fabric of the constituency is severely impacted.

In the recent incidents, several people lost their lives due to electric shock caused by water logging. The victims, including children and young adults, were electrocuted while wading through water-logged streets or trying to pump out water from their homes. The tragedy has left families devastated, with many struggling to come to terms with the loss of their loved ones.

Two residents of Sheesh mahal and Inder Enclave, Kirari named Sanjay and Rajesh’s life was tragically cut short when they were electrocuted while wading through a water-logged street in Kirari. The devastating incident occurred when they came into contact with a live wire submerged in the water, leaving their family and loved ones in a state of shock and grief. A couple of days after this incident, Lallan Mishra from Meetha Pani colony, Agar Nagar died in a misfortunate incident when he was trying to navigate the treacherous water from his house with the help of a water pump. The same water pump from which Lallan Mishra got electrocuted, was issued to him by the MLA Rituraj’s office in lieu of depositing his Aadhar card there.

In another heart-wrenching incident, two school kids lost their life as they drowned in a water logged pit near DDA Ground, Agar Nagar.

The local MLA Rituraj Govind from Aam Aadmi Party, who has been representing the Kirari constituency for the past nine years, has been accused of turning a blind eye to the problem. Despite repeated complaints and pleas from residents, the MLA has failed to take any concrete action to address the issue. The lack of effective drainage system, inadequate maintenance of electric infrastructure, and absence of safety measures have all contributed to the recurrence of this tragedy.

The residents of Kirari are outraged and demand immediate action from the MLA and the Delhi government. They have accused the MLA of neglecting his duties and prioritizing political gains over the lives of his constituents. The residents have also demanded the installation of safety measures, such as underground cabling and proper drainage systems, to prevent such incidents in the future.

Even the Delhi government’s inaction in addressing this critical issue is a betrayal of the trust placed in them by the people. The lack of accountability and transparency has emboldened the MLA to ignore the pleas of his constituents, leading to a culture of impunity.

To mitigate the water logging problem in Kirari, a multi-pronged approach is necessary. The government must invest in upgrading Kirari’s drainage system, including the construction of new stormwater drains and the desilting of existing ones. Effective urban planning and management practices must be adopted, including the creation of green spaces and the regulation of construction activities. A culture of accountability and transparency must be fostered, with regular monitoring and enforcement mechanisms in place to ensure that government agencies and citizens alike are held accountable for their actions.

Conclusively, the water logging problem in Kirari is a ticking time bomb, waiting to unleash its fury on the local residents. It is imperative that immediate action is taken to address this recurring disaster. The government, civic agencies, and citizens must come together to find solutions to this menace, which has claimed lives and wreaked havoc in the area . We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations to ensure that Kirari becomes a safe and livable area, free from the scourge of water logging.
